Why it is Vital to have a legal agreement in place before proceeding with Surrogacy in INDIA.
before the advent of Ivf and Surrogacy,Adoption was the only route to parenthood for infertile couples.
every year Millions of babies are born through Assisted reproductive techniques such as IUI,IVF,ICSI and Surrogacy and these techniques have been constantly in the news.in INDIA,popular film director Farah Khan had triplets through IVF in her late thirties and Bolly wood superstar Aamir khan had a son through surrogacy because his second wife Kiran Rao could not carry a pregnancy to term, these are the ones who have been confident enough to admit it in the public domain,no one knows how many have had babies through fertility treatments such as surrogacy.
famouscelebrities such as  Elton John, Nicole Kidman,Ricky Martin and Sarah Jessica Parker have openly had babies through Surrogacy in the USA.
in India a surrogacy agreement involves the Surrogate mother who agrees to be transferred with embryos created by IVF by fusing gametes from the Genetic parents with the sole intention of handing over the new born immediately after births and the genetic parents and the clinic which is responsible for carrying out the ivf procedure.
to intended parents and folks who are not directly involved, the process may seem straightforward but this may not necessarily be the case and legal complexities are involved depending on which country the intended parents are citizens of,for example certain countries such as germany and france completely prohibit surrogacy, hence at the kiran Infertility centre we dont accept citizens of these countries into our surrogacy program.
countries such as spain expect the Surrogate mother to go to the spanish consulate at 6 or 7 months of pregnancy.this seems like a highly illogical step which is apparently carried out to make sure that the surrogate is the same woman who delivers the child!well there are surely better ways to find this out,how about conducting a DNA test on the newborn to determine paternity?
the UK high commission expects that the Surrogate mother should sign a consent after 6 weeks of pregnancy relinquishing rights to the newborn if the surrogate is already married.if the surrogate is single this is not required.this is the standard practice which is followed in the UK,how and why it is applicable to Indian surrogate mothers who are Indian nationals i do not understand.however our legal team here at the Kiran infertility centre follows the relevant laws and if a certain embassy or high commission has certain requirements we duly follow them so that our patients do not have to suffer!
In countries like India and the US commercial surrogacy is a norm and Altruistic surrogacy arrangement are rare however in UK and Certain states in Australia only Altruistic surrogacy is allowed and only reasonable expenses maybe paid to egg donor or surrogate mother.
hence to make the process hassle free and to make an informed Decision it is vital that the Intended parents are fully aware of the laws pertaining to Surrogacy in INDIA and their own country.
keeping this enormous responsibility in mind, the Kiran Infertility centre has a dedicated legal team in place to take care of legal requirements for intended parents from 21 different nationalities which have access to surrogacy in INDIA.

Why Surrogacy in India is your best bet of having a baby!
Despite the negative press it has been getting at the hands of vested interests,Surrogacy in India is still your best bet of having a baby.
it is one of the safest & cheapest options available today across the globe and is proved by the hundreds of  Childless and infertile couples turning up at fertility clinics in INDIA opting for  surrogacy to have a baby despite the regulations and restrictions put in place by the Indian Government in january 2013.
in January this year the indian government restricted the option to only married heterosexual couples to be allowed to have a baby through surrogacy in India after applying and duly getting a medical visa.this restriction is only for foreign nationals and not applicable to Indians.
this has brought down the number of foreign couples visiting INDIA for surrogacy but has not made a significant difference because a lot of couples still come in for Procedures like In Vitro Fertilisation,ICSI,oocyte and Embryos donation as well.
the reasons are manifold, the skill of Indian Doctors is world renowned in the field of Assisted Reproduction, this coupled with affordable fertility care(almost 1/4th the cost of America and Europe),availability of quality Caucasian and Indian Egg/sperm donors and a strict but regulated environment has provided infertile couples both Indian and Foreign to come to India for having a baby.
The American Surrogacy industry is facing a difficult time this year with the coming to light of several irregularities and frauds in the field of surrogacy in the USA,there have been stories of Surrogacy and egg donor Agencies closing overnight and dissapearing and a huge Debate over the passing of controversial Louisana Surrogacy bill, not to forget the costs of having a baby through surrogacy in the USA which is upwards of 200 thousand US$!!
in the UK and Certain other countries only Altruistic surrogacy is allowed wherein only Reasonable expenses can be paid to the surrogate  mother and Running an agency for surrogay or egg donation is illegal, however a lot of patients from the United kingdom have told me that they have paid more than reasonable expenses to agencies and surrogate mothers for years together and still no baby.one couple had to give up their child because the Surrogate mother a UK national decided to keep the baby even though she had no genetic link to the child.

Surrogacy News from  INDIA.

Bollywood star Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan expecting a baby boy through Surrogacy!the World press has been going to town and i couldn't be happier, because after Aamir Khan another bollywood star who just had a baby boy "Azaad" through surrogacy helps bring surrogacy ou in the open and people will be encouraged to study more about surrogacy!
well for all my friends who are not from INDIA,the headline should not make for much reading but for us in the Ivf and surrogacy field and Radiologists who follow the PNDT act to the letter, this comes as a shock because Gender selection or identifying the sex of the baby before birth is a punishable offence in INDIA which invites a jail term for upto 2 years for those who do it and for those who get it done!so if it turns out to be correct that Shahrukh and his wife indeed got to know the sex of their baby in the Antenatal period then they and their Doctor, who ever has done the procedure have commited a crime! will they be punished or like scores of big shots before them will they get away.
now their counter point maybe that the would have flown abroad and gotten this done,it is a known fact that Indian folks who come from money do fly to neighbouring countries like Thailand for egs to know the gender of their baby and the Indian govt cannot stop this!i think the Indian Govt should make going abroad to get a gender selection test illegal too.this is the only way the skewed Gender ratio will improve.

surrogacy In India.

well i copied this from facebook, but when folks can respect and love their own mothers then why cant they do the same for a surrogate mother?
its very true... its very natural tht god culd nt b everywhere so he created MOTHER"S so alwas tke care of her&FATHER too
Your mom carried you in her womb for nine months. She felt sick for months with nausea, then she watched her feet swell and her skin stretch and tear. She strug...gled to climb stairs. She got breathless quickly. She suffered many sleepless night. She then went through EXCRUCIATING PAIN to bring you into this world.

She became your nurse, your chef, your maid, your chauffeur, your biggest fan, your teacher, and your best-friend. She struggled for you, cried over you, hoped the best for you, and prayed for you.

Most of us take our mom for granted. But there are people who have lost or never seen theirs.

Surrogacy India.
yet another happy surrogacy story from the KIC surrogacy program.

Dear Dr. Samit and Anjani,

That is a miracle for us to live in this era and know both of you.
We look at or think of our little ones every moment and could not stop thinking about India and KIC. You gave us the best we wish for.

We could not say enough thanks.

We will keep in touch for long long time :)

Take care

Best Regards,

Thai & Ngan & Natalie & Nicole

i am a very light sleeper and because most of our patients are in a different time zones we do get emails from them in the middle of the night mostly in case of an emergency, for egs if they dont get their menses on time or miss their flight etc.they need our guidance so i do check my email when my BlackBerry beeps and if it is an emrgency i make it a point to reply then and there and go back to sleep.i have gotten used to this since the last 5 or so years since the initiation of our International surrogacy program and i must admit that i sleep for only 4 to 5 hours on weekdays and try to catch up on my sleep on sundays(unless i am in bangalore(:!!,my family hates this habit of mine but now i am an official insomniac i guess!!
so last night at around 2 am i must have gotten this sweet message from the Tran's who just had their babies through surrogacy at our clinic and were back home in the USA and wrote us an email immediately upon reaching home.
it feels good when folks appreciate what you do for them as Surrogacy is not an easy job and a majority of them do! a few people would like to believe and treat this as a monetary transaction and keep it like that!! not even a thank you or a handshake,a few of them dont even look at you once their babies or born! i just take this as a cultural thing and dont bother about it and am much to busy with work to even pay heed to this, but i must admit my staff does get offended sometimes about this rude behaviour.i try to calm them down by being philosophical and telling them to believe in "KARMA"

Thursday 6 June 2013

well another success story of Surrogacy in India.

well today we were paid a visit by vijay and Neeta Maddala and their beautiful little daughter Priya who was born a couple of months ago through our surrogacy program.vijay and Neeta are Americans but their folks and family are based in INDIA so they were not in a tearing hurry to get back home.the good news is that Priya got her American passport and now they are headed to the FRRO to complete the paperwork and get the exit visa which should take 7 to 10 days.
it wasn't the easiest of journies for vijay and neeta to be able to have a baby, both are in their late forties and have had a long wait to hold their baby in their hands.infact vijay had to come twice to give his samples as the first time around it had not worked for them.
so no wonder when priya was born they had a big cradle ceremony for her and invited their friends and family in order to share their happiness with their close family and friends.

another succesful surrogacy cycle comes to a beautiful finale at the Kiran infertility centre!

France legalises Gay marriage
post the legalisation of gay marriage, passed as law on May 18 france is apparently bitterly divided and it is not surprising because similar to India, homosexuality was considered "a mental diseas" in France
and this opposing half of French population is against the GPA bill, "gestation pour autrui" meaning the surrogacy bill. Currently, French law prohibits surrogacy because it "commodifies" the human body. Under French law, any donation for assisted reproduction has to be voluntary, free and anonymous and the woman who physically gives birth is considered the mother.
i am writing this against the backdrop of a surrogacy story covering the Kiran infertility centre and its Surrogacy program which was shown on frnech Natioanl Tv a few days back.it can be viewed here
when they first contacted me,i asked the journalist the reason for this kind of a story and they told me that it would be to educate the French population about the benefits of surrogacy and i agreed.it has come out well and delves into the importan aspects of a surrogacy arrangement at the kiran infertility centre.

Parents of twins with the help of Surrogacy.
a few days back i had mentioned about the birth of twins of Thai and Ngan Tran, residents of USA at The kiran infertility centre through Surrogacy.
well they recieved their American passports a while back and now are applying for exit visas at the FRRO for their babies. they came by the clinic today to click some pictures and say Good Byes.
i must admit that there is a bit of an overwhelming feeling when something like this happens, even though i try to be as emotionally detached as possible because it is easy to get carried away when the parents cant stop thanking you enough and call you their "hero" and compare you to "God",it is important to stay grounded for 2 reasons which My Pop always told me
1.never get too happy when things are going your way
2.never be too sad when things go against you.
these two things i have always kept in mind, enough of the philosophy, lets see some pictures
Saji with the parents and their twins-Saji is the chauffer.
