Heaven on Earth!!

last weekend on a 2 days trip i had the good fortune of visiting Munnar which is a 90 minute flight from Hyderabad and a further 4 hours by road .it is a hill station on the Western Ghats a range of mountains situated in the Idukki district of the Indian state of Kerala.
visiting Munnar was always on my "TO DO" list because i had heard about the Tea Estates and beautiful forests and wildlife.

The name Munnar is believed to mean "three rivers", referring to the town's strategic location at the confluence of the Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers
Munnar town is in Kannan Devan Hills Village in Devikulam taluk and is the largest panchayat in the Idukki district having an area measuring nearly 557 kms.

one very important and historical place to visit sits at the top of a  mountain and is called as "MUNIYARA" in Malyalam lanuguage and is located amidst sandal wood forests.these Dolmens are generally Neolithic stone formation, consisting of a horizontal stone supported by several vertical stones and thought to be a tomb.
many of these stone age structures have withstood the vagaries of nature and have been discovered only recently.
these Structures maybe centuries old but still are strong and sturdy and a person can easily sleep inside these structures protected from the sun and the rain.
there are maybe 50 such structures on the very top of the mountains located all over Munnar.
there is also a beautiful little temple and a cross on the top of once such muntain.

all in all it was a peaceful vacation even though it was very short!as Doctors our lives are filled with stress and pressures once in a while it feels like heaven to get away from the daily rigours of life!!
