Thin Endometrium and its effects on Infertility treatment.

What happens when a woman has thin endometrium?

 

Uterus is the most essential organ in a woman’s body known for carrying a baby. It consists of three specific layers with the innermost lining known as Endometrium. This is the part that has the embryo implanted and nurtures it until it is ready to be delivered. A thick endometrium is necessary for a successful pregnancy. However, many women have a thin endometrium leading to a host of issues. 

 

There is an increased possibility of pregnancy failure if your endometrium is less than 7.5 mm in thickness. However along with thickness the quality(Trilaminar pattern) of Endometrium is also of prime importance.

 Some of the other effects of having an unnaturally thin uterine lining may include the following:-

 

1) Menstrual irregularity

2) Painful menstrual cycles

3) Low levels of estrogen

4) Amenorrhea

5) Infertility

Could a cyst stop a woman from having a baby?

The answer depends on the kind of cyst and its location.

Many women are found to have simple ovarian cysts after undergoing imaging tests. They are small sacs filled with fluid that do not cause any discomfort to the patient. 

 

However, you may feel a twinge pain come on suddenly if the cyst ruptures causing you to be hospitalized. This will happen in a case of haemorrhaging cyst. Fertility is usually not affected by the presence of cysts though. There are a few exceptions, however, especially when the cysts are formed due to another condition. 

 

Some of health issues that result in infertility coupled with cysts include:-

 

Endometriosis- Blood can be trapped within the ovary or fallopian tubes when the uterine tissue is present in ovary. This may result in cysts with over 50% of patients being unable to get pregnant.

 

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)- There are numerous follicles present in the ovary of patients with PCOS. The follicles fail to rupture and release mature eggs . There is no ovulation as a result with the follicles transforming into tiny cysts within the ovary. This is one of the leading conditions related to infertility. Is infertility a Treatable medical condition?

 Infertility or failure to get pregnant normally often comes with a social stigma especially in India. However, it is not a disease per se and can be corrected by following the advice of a skilled and efficient fertility doctor.
