No Stable Partner, The Reason Behind Women Freezing Eggs: Study

Women tend to freeze their eggs not for career planning or education, but due to the lack of a stable relation according to a new study done by the Yale University in USA.
Lack of a stable relationship could be the reason why young women are increasingly opting to freeze their eggs, contrary to the popular belief of delaying childbearing due to pursuing education or career, says the study.

The findings showed that 85 per cent who chose to freeze their eggs, were without partners, and reflected six different life circumstances - being single, divorced or divorcing, broken up from a relationship, working overseas, single mother by choice or circumstance, and career planning.
Those with partners had circumstances such as a man not ready to have children, in a relationship too new or uncertain, with a partner who refuses to have children, or with a partner with his own multiple partners.

"Most of the women had already pursued and completed their educational and career goals but by their late 30s had been unable to find a lasting reproductive relationship with a stable partner. This is why they turned to egg freezing," said Marcia Inhorn from the Yale University in the US. "The medical literature and media coverage of oocyte cryopreservation - egg freezing - usually suggest that elective egg freezing is being used to defer or delay childbearing among women pursuing education and careers. "Our study suggests that the lack of a stable partner is the primary motivation," Inhorn said.

For the study, presented at the 34th Annual Meeting of ESHRE in Barcelona, the team conducted in-depth interviews with 150 women who had chosen to freeze their eggs at fertility clinics and had completed at least one cycle of oocyte cryopreservation.
"Clinicians must be aware of the role partnership 'troubles' play in the lives of egg freezing patients and make patient-centred care for single women a high priority," Inhorn said.

Why Ukraine Has Become A Hot-Spot For Child Surrogacy

People may choose to use a surrogate for all sorts of reasons - fertility issues, preexisting health problems, issues with previous pregnancies or age-related concerns - and of course, it can seem like a no-brainer for same-sex couples or single people looking to have a family of their own.

There are two types of legal surrogacy in the UK

- gestational - where the surrogate is implanted with an embryo that has been fertilised in a lab using the intended mother's or donor's egg and the intended father's or donor's sperm. 

- traditional surrogacy - where the surrogate's own egg is fertilised by the intended father's sperm.

The current law in UK means parents having a baby through surrogacy must apply for a court order to gain legal rights over the child once it has been born.

It can also mean that if a surrogate mother changes her mind about giving up the child, parents could face a long legal battle to try and claim the baby. This is because current rules in the UK give a woman automatic parentage over any child she gives birth to, even if the child is not biologically her own.

Canadian MP's bill to decriminalise surrogacy and donor payments

A private member's bill aims to decriminalise payments for sperm, eggs and surrogacy in Canada.

It's time Canada got it right,' said Sarah Cohen, founder of Fertility Law Canada.

Canada has a shortage of gamete donors and surrogates so most couples who need surrogacy have to go abroad, often to the USA where paid surrogacy is legal in some states but can be extremely expensive.

A shortage of sperm donors within Canada means that most sperm used in fertility clinics is imported.

Cohen points out that most of this sperm comes from paid donors anyway, with the added difficulties of lack of control over how many families are created from a single donor, and lack of donor information for the resulting children.

The Association of Reformed Political Action Canada oppose the bill: 'Our law needs to respect the best interests of all children and to defend their human dignity.

' Dr Alana Cattapan, assistant professor at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Saskatchewan advises legislators to wait until Health Canada issues clearer rules about sperm, eggs and surrogacy, expected later this year.

The First Surrogacy babies born in Kathmandu went back to the USA last week.So congratulations to Martin Ramey and his Family
the total processing time for the American passports was about 3 weeks
since it was the first ever case in Kathmandu for American nationals there were some new things to learn,some extra paperwork.
The US consulate in KTM needs the Surrogate mother to go to the Embassy to sign a waiver of parental rights which is not required in Hyderabad.
The other American Case-Vincent should get passports for his Babies this week and should be able to fly back early next week.
Another American case- Vijay is going to the embassy today for His DNA testing.
The first ever Australian Case has submitted the citizenship application and received a positive DNA match for their twins.they shall be submitting their application for passport this week.
the first ever Spanish case has an appointment with the honorary consulate in Spain tomorrow.
things are going well so far and coming back to normal slowly and steadily and i pray it continues that way.

Thai set to ban commercial surrogacy

After a brief lull,Thai Surrogacy is again back in the news
Thailand`s parliament has voted to ban commercial surrogacy after outrage erupted following allegations an Australian couple abandoned a baby with Down`s syndrome, a legislator said Friday.

A draft bill -- which would see anyone profiting off surrogacy given a maximum ten year prison sentence -- passed its first reading in the country`s military-stacked Parliament on Thursday, legislator Wallop Tungkananurak said.
"We want to put an end to this idea in foreigners` minds that Thailand is a baby factory," he told AFP.
"The bill was adopted with overwhelming support."

Surrogacy -French Government takes 1 step forward and 2 steps Backwards

PARIS–The French "Protest for All" movement has gathered 100,000 participants in Paris and Bordeaux on 6 October 2014.  Last week, Prime Minister Manuel Valls wanted to reassure, and affirmed to be opposed to gestational surrogacy, a practice of what he calls as “commercializing human beings and merchandising the female bodies”, something intolerable, according to his own words. France also plans a global initiative to get a ruling among the states to this affect.God Only Knows what stone age he is still living in!!

Last weekend, “La Manif pour Tous” or Protests for all has once again shown the sustainability of the movement and its supporters.  Established in November 2012, in reaction to the Taubira law on marriage between persons of the same sex, the movement has grown to a reach that no sociologist or political scientist could have predicted: six large protests, including two that gathered around one million people. With this last rally, the government seems to have understood the message coming from a solid base of the population, defending a “natural” family pattern as the foundation of French society.

This is the card of appeasement PM Manuel Valls played a few days before the rally, admitting he had changed his mind on gestational surrogacy, and recognizing in the public debate the virtue of having evolved government positions. “I think we cannot go towards this kind of procreation that would question our values and principles,” declared the Prime Minister during a press conference in Matignon office.
The gestational surrogacy and the assisted reproduction for people of the same sex, were actually underlying effects of the first piece of legislation on marriage for all sexes in 2012.  What belonged to the natural state of a human being would be legislated by political ideas. That is why, considering the public outcry that started two years ago, and thanks to a deeper debate, the government is now strictly opposed to the legislation of gestational surrogacy.
Some of My French Patients were very excited and hoped that they would be able to access Surrogacy abroad but unfortunately it seems they might have to wait for a change of Government.
