GnRH
(Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone): What Is It and How Does It Work
The term (GnRH) is an abbreviation
for gonadotropin-releasing hormone. The hypothalamus in the brain produces this
hormone. GnRH operates on anterior pituitary gland receptors. The gonadotropin
hormones follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) are
released by the pituitary gland in response to GnRH .
The ovaries in women and the testes
in males are then stimulated by FSH and LH. They cause the ovaries to mature
and produce eggs, as well as the testes to mature and generate sperm in males.
