around for a long time and dates back to biblical times, the concept of medical
surrogacy as we know today is the outcome of in-vitro fertilization.
Gestational surrogacy is a procedure in which an embryo created through IVF technology is implanted in
surrogate sometimes called gestational carrier. Gestational surrogacy allows
many intended mothers to be related to their children. Intended parents who
have remaining embryos from past IVF treatments can use those in gestational
surrogacy at the kiran infertility centre.
There are usually three important phases in
the gestational surrogacy procedure such as-
·
Egg donation that involves egg donor
undergoing a series of the treatment procedure to extract some eggs.
·
Fertilization where the egg is fertilized
with semen in the laboratory.
·
Transfer of the fertilized egg into the womb
of the surrogate mother.
Steps taken during surrogacy – A brief introduction
The screening of surrogate forms the basic
foundation of the surrogacy technique where the surrogate undergoes thorough
medical and psychological evaluations. Psychological interviews are carried out
to determine that the Surrogate Mother is mentally healthy and is capable of
following the protocols provided to her in due course of becoming a surrogate
mother.
at Kic under the supervision of eminent doctors and psychologists ensure
that the surrogate mother is not subjected to any pressure or coercion to
become a surrogate.
The concerned surrogate mother is then
required to undergo blood tests for determining the existence of sexually
transmitted diseases and or any other communicable diseases. A variety of
hormone tests and other pathological and biochemical tests are performed.
Such a variety of tests are required to screen for
infection with Chlamydia, Urea Plasma, Gonococcus and other infective organisms
that might interfere with a successful surrogacy outcome. Once the surrogate
mother is deemed fit in terms of Medical, Physical and Psychological fitness
she is then formally inducted into the Surrogacy Program.
