Thin Endometrium and its impact on IVF Treatment

Thinning OF Endometrium!!! Can It Cause problem In IVF

With infertility on the rise, more and more couples are turning to IVF as a definitive solution. There are various factors which determine the success rate of IVF, and a thin endometrium is one of them.

Uterus which is a vital organ of a female reproductive system needs to be healthy in order to carry the fetus properly and keep it nourished during pregnancy.

It consists of three specific layers with the innermost lining known as endometrium. This is the part that has the embryo implanted and nurtures it until it is ready to be delivered.

The endometrium should be at least 7.5 mm in thickness for supporting pregnancy. Anything less than that is known as thin endometrium which can affect fertility and pregnancy adversely.

Causes associated with a thin endometrium include the following:-

1) Low quantity of estrogen

2) Reduced blood flow to the uterus

3) Fibroids in the endometrium

4) irregular mensturation

5) Pelvic inflammatory disease

6) Adhesions in the uterus

7) Low quality of endometrial tissue

8) Prolonged use of birth control medication

9) infections such as Genital Tuberculosis

The cause of thin endometrium needs to be addressed before going ahead with IVF so that the chances of success are increased.
