What is the role of chronic diseases or conditions contributing to erectile dysfunction in men?

Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which a man fails to maintain an erection rigid enough to allow sexual intercourse. The chances of erectile dysfunction may double in men aged between 40 and 70 years of age but it can affect men of all ages.

Erectile dysfunction may also occur in men who are suffering from chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, and other endocrine disorders. For instance, men with erectile dysfunction are about one and half times more likely to develop cardiovascular disease in future than those who are able to achieve erections.
