Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) is suggested for couples undergoing
fertility treatment. It is often used during the IVF process. It is used just
before transferring an embryo or blastocyst into the uterus of the mother for
implantation and progression of pregnancy.
The chromosomal defects can be detected by this method so that the child
born via an IVF process is healthy with no associated genetic problems. While
this is not mandatory, the fertility experts at KIC, Bengaluru recommend this
procedure for the following benefits:-
1) Better selection of embryos
2) Implantation assured as defective embryos are not used during the transfer
3) Increased chances of pregnancy
4) Avoids risks of giving birth to mentally challenged children
5) Ensures the emotional well-being of the parents
