In case of In-vitro fertilization orIVF, the doctor exposes the eggs to sperm and then leaves them to fertilize in
a laboratory. The fertilized egg develops into an embryo. Over the next six
days, an embryologist will monitor the embryos' progress, after which they will
select a suitable embryo for implantation.
In case of Intracytoplasmic Sperm
Injection or ICSI, the embryologist at KiranInfertility Centre –Hyderabad using a very fine ICSI needle under the
microscope injects a single sperm straight into one of the eggs. ICSI bypasses
the stage where the sperm naturally penetrates the egg.
ICSI is performed if there is an
issue with the sperm or if previous IVF procedures have failed to produce a
pregnancy. One or more embryos may be transferred while the rest are frozen by
the doctor.
